Santa Baia de Banga’s Church
Lugar Souto, 1, 32516, Ourense
Its origin is Romanesque, but that is not the impression we get when we see it. Over the years, gothic, baroque and even nineteenth-century elements were added to it so that the indefiniteness of styles stands out. Its plan is simple, rectangular, single-storey and with an apse. It also has its bell tower. But the most striking thing about this sanctuary is discovered from the inside. The paintings in the vault of the presbytery are those that make it famous. The authorship is not known, but whoever made them knew the terrain in which they moved. It is possible that he even knew something about the works of Michelangelo, because you can intuit the teacher’s influence on them.
