Parish Church of Saint Cibrán
Rúa de Evaristo Vaamonde, 3, 32500 O Carballiño, Ourense
The building, simple in its origin, has a latin cross plan layout with three longitudinal naves, the lateral ones being very narrow. Another one of transversal character plays the role of cruiser. The main chapel appears higher than the longitudinal nave and than the head. The apse is polygonal and in two sections, presenting the lowest rectangular windows. Although the most striking is the presence of the external tower. This element, composed of four bodies, is the most representative in its appearance and vision. The first of these bodies has three large horseshoe arches joined by a stone-to-quarter vault that serves as an entrance porch to the interior of the temple; the second body contains three cruciform windows that give light to the temple. The third is polygonal with four half-point arches enclosing the bells on where the last body sits, of pyramidal character and topped by an iron cross. Note that at its entrance stood the cruise which today sits on Eira das Flores. We can say that in its vicinity there was an important activity the fair days, especially within the guilds of the zoqueiros, sellers of used clothes and merchants in the so-called Praza das Galiñas.
