The Paper Mill Museum

Located next to the Arenteiro River, near Longoseiros, the former A Lavandeira Paper Mill complex is one of the most unique elements of O Carballiño’s industrial heritage. This facility, a pioneer in the 19th century, harnessed water power to drive its machinery, becoming a prominent example of the industrialization of inland Galicia.

In recent years, this site underwent a restoration process that transformed it into a museum dedicated to the history and traditional production of paper. The project included the restoration of the old paper mill and its hydraulic system, as well as the reconstruction of the original machinery used to turn rags into paper pulp.

The Paper Museum offers insight into a fundamental part of the region’s economic and social history and aims to become a key destination for visitors to O Carballiño, contributing to the revitalization of tourism and the preservation of the region’s industrial heritage.
