Fish farm
Parque Etnográfico do Arenteiro -Parque Municipal do Carballiño
O Carballiño’s fish farm was officially inaugurated 64 years ago. On September 15, 1961, two of the key pieces of equipment that make up the town’s main infrastructure began operating.
Along with the fish farm, the Residencia de Tempo Libre (leisure residence) which focused on raising trout for restocking, also opened its doors near the facility.
It was under the jurisdiction of the National Institute for Nature Conservation (ICONA) until it was transferred to the Galician Regional Government (Xunta de Galicia).
A large proportion of the trout that are restocked in the rivers of four Galician provinces come from the hatcheries and ponds of this fish farm. It is located at the end of the promenade in the residential area and the park, in a backwater of the River Arenteiro, already within the district of Labandera, on a small island known as Illa do Filomeno. The site was reclaimed from the river by filling in the land, and connected to the other bank by a bridge.
